It's that time again! Yes, Pack 412 held it's annual Raingutter Regatta Race this September 2010. We saw boats of all different shapes and sizes this year. The catamaran was a very popular design this year. The Raingutter Regatta is a model boat race against Cub Scouts, siblings and guests. The boats are assembled by the Cub Scouts from a standard balsa wood kit. The boats are placed in two side-by-side rain gutters and the "sailors" propel their boats by blowing on the sails. The first one to reach the end of the gutter wins the race. You can find pictures of this year's boat race here in the photo gallery. |

During
summer camp the boy in the Webelos II den worked on their Scientist
Activity Badge and almost earned everything required to earn the
badge. The only thing they had left to do was to visit a
scientist. The boys got that opportunity a few weeks after
camp by visiting with Dr. Sakamoto on morning. Dr. Sakamoto
works for the Cancer Research Laboratories at UNO and showed the Den
several laboratories that he works in. The boys met other
scientists and lab workers working on cancer research.
Everyone was very friendly and the boys had a great time and learned
a lot about the work scientists do.
You can see more photos of the Webelos Den visit in the photo gallery in this album.
Pack
412 held its May Pack Meeting at Heron Haven. Friends of Heron Haven
near 120th and West Maple Rd, is a wonderful place to observe birds
and wildlife in their natural habitat. The trails are open from dusk
to dawn and admission is free. This wildlife sanctuary is a hidden
gem in West Omaha.
Mrs. Werthman gave the Pack a guided tour of the duck ponds and board walk explaining the wildlife that we met along the way. She showed the Cub Scouts the duckweed that the water foul eat and the markings along the boardwalk rail that the kingfisher make when they hit their fish against the wood. After our nature walk along the wooded trails Mrs. Werthman challenged the Pack to a game of Nature Bingo inside the Heron Haven lodge house.
You can find more information about Friends of Heron Haven on their website at www.heronhaven.org. You can see more photos of the Pack Meeting at Heron Haven here.
The Webelos Den had the opportunity to attend the Soaring Eagle
District Boy Scout Spring Camporee on the weekend of April 23-25.
This campout with Boy Scout Troop 412 was a requirement for their
Arrow of Light. It was also a wonderful opportunity to see about 30
other Boy Scout Troops in the Omaha area.
| The weekend was filled with many challenging events including a mini Cub-O which the Den was already familiar with from last Septembers activities. |
